THE ARIZONA IMMERSION PROGRAM
WITH MUSTANG MADDY

IMMERSE YOURSELF IN MADDY'S METHODS
MARCH 26-29, 2020

PHOENIX, ARIZONA

What if… your horse came running to you when you called and loved every training session with you…

What if… you knew exactly what to do to solve your horse’s behavioral problems, anxieties and fears…

What if… you could train your horse to do anything imaginable and had a deep, trusting connection…

…without using those harsh methods that “break” the horse, and just don’t sit right with you?

HERE'S THE PROBLEM

This is how most horsewomen try to develop a connection with their horse:

– They try all the tactics & tricks that friends & professionals suggest, but they have to push past the guilt of using methods that don’t align with their conscience

– They use “Natural Horsemanship” but their timing is slightly off, and understanding of fear reactions is lacking, so progress is slow

– Sadly, when they seek out help & attend clinics from reputable trainers, they don’t get the opportunity to ask questions and problem solve with the trainer

– At the average clinic, there is no time to soak in or process what they are learning, so they leave frustrated and overwhelmed

Eventually, these horsewomen want to give up or even sell their ‘problem’ horse. Feeling inadequate is devastating. And wanting to connect with your horse, but not understanding how, can be soul-crushing…

BUT IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE THIS WAY!

WHAT STUDENTS
ARE SAYING

Hi! I’m Maddy, and I created the Immersion Program because I know how it feels to lack a connection with horses. All my life, my desire has been for my horses to WANT to be with me, just as much as I want to be with them.

So, I put together a program to teach my signature methodology that has allowed me to train & connect with any horse while using methods that honor the horse in the process. I wanted to create an opportunity for horsewomen to truly understand my theory and training principles so they can completely soak it all in without worrying about implementing right away with their horse. This program is raw and real and a great place to observe training in real-time and to learn how to problem-solve.

That is how the “Immersion Program” was born!

EXPERIENCE IT ALL

DISCOVER INNOVATIVE TOOLS TO MOTIVATE AND COMMUNICATE WITH ANY EQUINE.

You’ve Asked, We’ve Delivered!

With an overwhelming amount of requests to shadow or intern Maddy, we’ve come up with a solution…In this program, students will observe Maddy as she trains for 6 hours each day. Students will totally immerse themselves by watching her training methods for 4 days in a row with various challenging equines.

These will be real-life training scenarios that Maddy will be working through. True to her nature, Maddy will be exploring what’s possible and experimenting with revolutionary techniques as she continues to perfect her methods and find ways we can better honor the horse.

Imagine having a clear understanding of tools and techniques, plus feeling confident in troubleshooting training issues… on the final day of the immersion program, students will take what they learned over the course of 4 days with Maddy and create a training plan to take back for their own horses!

MARCH PROJECTS

Subject to change based on animals’ timelines!

MYSTIC

Training focus: Colt starting (beginning phases)
Have you been following Mystic on Youtube with the “Mystic Experiment” series? Here’s your chance to follow this previously “untrainable” mustang’s progress in real-time! Mystic will be going through the beginning phases of colt starting…

But there’s a catch: We will be using no round pen, no tack, no restraints, no escalation of pressure. Mystic’s training will take place in a large arena, where she has 100% choice in participating in the training… Or not. I used to think this impossible, but now I am thrilled to share this new (and dare I say magical!?) method of training with you.

FROSTY

Training focus: Colt starting (advanced phases)
Frosty is a BLM mustang Maddy adopted from her first Running Wild Retreat in 2018. She is accepting a rider on her back at liberty and is advancing to skills such as:

  • Walk, trot, canter with a rider
  • Accepting the saddle
  • Driving with long reins (using positive reinforcement, first taught at liberty!)
  • Building softness and suppleness in the bridle
  • Building healthy movement and biomechanics

LOUWALA & CHIPETA

Training focus: Gentling, Cooperative care
Louwala (“Lulu” for short) and Chipeta are particularly wild and sensitive mustang mares that were apart of the Running Wild Retreat series in 2019. Both are completing training with Maddy so that they can go to their new homes. Maddy will be working with Lulu & Chipeta advancing their leading skills and building cooperative care management skills such as farrier preparations and trailer loading. Cooperative care is all about building husbandry behaviors with the animal’s full willingness and choice to participate… Imagine stress free farrier visits with horses who love to participate in their own care!

WILD MULE EARL

Training Focus: R+ Foundations, Groundwork Foundations
Earl is a BLM Mule who has wound up in one home after another! He is currently going through Maddy’s Positive Reinforcement Foundations curriculum, where the equine learns relaxation and emotional control around food and is introduced to various behaviors using the target as a tool for training. He is also being taken through Maddy’s Groundwork Foundations curriculum, learning maneuvers such as the back-up, hindquarter yield, forequarter yield, leg yield, circling, and exploring movement (such as collection) using positive reinforcement!

CHIEF

Training focus: Overarousal in training
Chief is a BLM mustang surrendered to Maddy due to unpredictable bucking and bolting behaviors undersaddle. He is beginning his rehabilitation with Maddy using positive reinforcement, but is a big “foodie!” He is very food motivated… But “too” motivated, meaning he is over-aroused by food. How do we overcome over-arousal in our horses? Will training with positive reinforcement even work for these kinds of horses? We will be exploring answers to this concept with Chief!

ZEBRAS

Training focus: Aggression and poisoned cues
How do we work with animals who have shown aggressive tendencies using positive reinforcement? Maddy will be diving deep into this topic with Zeus, a young zebra with a history of aggression. She will also be exploring the concept of “poisoned cues” in training, one of the big areas we must explore as “crossover” trainers, moving from a world of negative reinforcement-based training into the positive reinforcement realm.
